Door County, Wisconsin (Popeye at the Fish Broil, Cheesecake, and Egg Harbor)

29 Aug

What’s up Meebsies?

Another Door County post for you guys. Hope you are all having a great rest of your summer. ^^

Off topic, but for those who are wondering what the heck happened to the giveaway. It will have to be REALLY postponed. I thought that I sent out a tweet about it, but I guess not. ūüė¶ I’m really sorry guys, but my life has been really hectic. Really hectic. I promise the giveaway will be¬†extremely amazing. ^_^ Please have patience with me.

I highly suggest going to a fish broil while you are in Door County. I know that many people have gone to the more common fish fry. You can tell from the name that a fish broil is where the food is broiled in water instead of being fried. After talking to a few locals, we were told that the Old Post Office is where you should go to get a good broil experience. It’s also one of the few places where they de-bone your fish for you! Make sure you place a reservation ahead of time because they fill up fast. ^^

You guys are probably wondering, what’s up with the title Meebs? Before the fish broil, we meet the broil master. He’s pretty awesome and doesn’t he look like Popeye? Lol.

See. Don’t they look alike? ^_^

Back to the broil. They first start off by heating up the water.

When everything is almost done cooking. He lights the whole pot on fire by pouring on gasoline. O.O

This is what it looks like when they debone the fish.

For dessert, they have BOMB homemade cherry pie and vanilla ice cream. ^^

Went shopping/sightseeing in Egg Harbor. It’s so beautiful here. There is always something about a little town that puts your heart at peace.

Met a new friend. ^^

Stopped at the Pink Bakery for a snack.

First thing I saw when I walked in. BOOTY COOKES!!! ><

Even though booty cookies looked good. I went with the more conservative cookie sandwich. Lol. ^_^

Egg Harbor is full of little boutiques, cafes, and restaurants.  Great for exploring and shopping.

Yummy mango gelato.

Would you eat a box for 20 bucks?

Last stop is some cheesecake. ^^

The owner told us that his baker trained in New York. I can see it paid off. Soo pretty that you don’t even want to eat it.

I can’t have cheesecake, so I had lactose free ice cream and waffles with…

cherry juice; because Door County is known for their cherry juice. ^^

Lastly a picture of me at our private beach/dock. ^_^

Have a great day!!!

Door County, Wisconsin (Lighthouse Hunting While High On Cheese)

24 Aug

Heya Meebsies,

I can’t beileve that summer is slowly coming to an end. It’s never seems to be long enough. T_T

While I was in Chicago, I had a chance to go on a quick road trip to Door County, Wisconsin. Transitioning from the fast paced Chicago to the calm waters of Lake Michigan; it was a welcomed change. I finally got some real R&R. ^_^

IDK about you guys, but when I think about Wisconsin; I think about cheese. Lol. As we drove through Wisconsin’s countryside, it was cheese factory after cheese factory. You know the cheese is fresh when there is a factory right next to the store. Lol. ^^

The first step in our journey was filling our tummies with all the cheese we could bear. ^_^

This is what I saw when I walked in…

Is this heaven? *O*

Nah I’m just kidding. But it was pretty impressive. This is only one fridge of the the six I believe.

Cute wax packaged cheese. ^^

I couldn’t agree with you more.

I wanted this hat sooo bad. I mean come on guys. Who wouldn’t want a top hat made of cheese?

Since this is a pretty small town, instead of hotels, we got a little cottage. Despite the appearance on the outside, this place was nice. There were three of us and this place could¬†accommodate¬†6. Even though there isn’t wifi or T.V. the private dock/beach made up for it. ^_^

If you guys are interested, check out their website. The owners are really really really nice. Since the oven in our cottage didn’t work, they took off $50 from out rent. ^^

Below are pictures of the dock and beach. ^^

After we settled in, we decided to go lighthouse hunting…

Even though we did find two lighthouses. Our efforts we for naught. One lighthouse was on a military base. Another was closed…. T_T

I was actually looking forward to climbing a lighthouse. So instead, we decided to compromise.

Instead we decided to climb the Eagle Tower.

Despite being scared of heights. I had to stick it out because the view above was just spectacular. ^^

While the view above was amazing. The view below was just as beautiful. ^_^

Sad Face.

Stopped for dinner…

and did a little shopping…

/snacking. ^^

I thought I would end the post with these dragonflies I happened to stumble across. It was a miracle that I could even spot them. I wonder if they are best friends…

Have a great afternoon guys.

Talk to you soon.

Chicago Trip Part 5 (Lincoln Park Zoo/Art Institute of Chicago/ EATING!!! ^0^)

18 Aug

Evening Meebsies,

The final Chicago post. ^_^

Went to the Lincoln Park Zoo. The great thing about this place is it doesn’t cost a dime to go. The whole zoo is free to the public every day of the week. ^^

One of the greatest fountains EVAH!! ^^

Second fav animal. Pandas would have to be the first. ^_^

Got to pet the ponies. ^^

Had ice cream on our way back.

Bomb Diggidy Milkshakes. >_<

Greek for lunch. Highly recommend Kosta’s for gyros.

You MUST go the Art Institute of Chicago. This is a huge composition notebook. Height wise it was two of me. Pretty neat.

Lichtenstein Converse.

Original American Gothic By Grant Wood

The Picture of Dorian Grey By Ivan Albright. One of my favorites. Even though it is a little eerie. The detail is amazing.

A Sunday on La Grande Jatte By George Seurat

Paris Street; Rainy Day By Gustave Caillebotte

If you are familiar with pizza in Chicago; you know about Uno’s. This place has been in almost ever travel and food show I have every seen. I had to go. However, prepare to wait at least an hour before you get a seat. But sooo worth it.

Deep dish pzizza all the way boy. ^^

Next day we decided to try out Brothers Ribs for, well, ribs.

Horrible ribs… Ironic right?

This place was AMAZING. I know that I use that word a lot, but this place really was amazing. It’s¬†extremely affordable and the portions are HUGE.

First time I’ve every had crepes. Certainly won’t be the last.

If you get a chance, grab a ridiculously yummy milkshake from Ghirardelli.

Loved this Marina City building. It’s actually suppose to look like corn on a cob. Lol. There are apartments in this complex and all the rooms are pie shaped. Lol. Must be hard to decorate. >_<

If you love chocolate. Go to Fannie May for BOMB chocolates.

I know that a lot of people have a fear of flying. I on the other hand love flying. I find it serene. I always wonder if this is what heaven looks like…

Overall, I have to say that Chicago has stolen my heart. From the Chicago proud natives, to the twinkling skyscrapers at night.  There is  always something to love here. ^_^

Next post will be about my travels to Wisconsin. ^_^

Have a great rest of the day.

Love Always,

Chicago Trip Part 4 (Skydeck/Taste of Chicago/Museum of Science and Industry)

17 Aug

Ello Meebsies,

It really has been awhile hasn’t it? I’ve been taking a little time to relax and reflect. ^_^ I think it’s¬†important¬†to take a break every once and awhile. ^^ It was nice to finally sit down and read. I use to read all the time, but this past year I haven’t read a single book for fun. I forgot how amazing reading is…

On another note; yes this is another Chicago post. I’m telling you guys, I had a lot of adventures there. ^^ Without further ado…

I can’t say that Taste of Chicago was my favorite¬†experience¬†in Chicago. IDK about you guys, but I can’t eat at all when it’s hot. If it weren’t for my friends who actually got food. I would have eaten only Italian Ice and drank water for the whole experience. It was just way too hot. However, the food I did eat was pretty good. ^_^

First time I have ever had gumbo. Yummy. ^^

Despite the appearance, these were pretty darn good. Lol.

This was sweet cool relief in 103 degree weather. Thank God for Italian Ice. Lol.

Buckingham Fountain. Beautiful.

Cloud Gate. You can see the whole Chicago Skyline.

It’s kind gross to see all the hand smudges. O.O

I’m a sucker for museums. Especially when they are interactive. This rippling water machine was my favorite.

Indoor tornado. Pretty cool.

Made my own personal Meebsie Raindow. ^-^

Had to visit the Skydeck of course. So beautiful. I LOVE the city. It’s breathtaking. ^^

It’s a long way down. Lol. ¬†They have really cool sky boxes that protrude from the building so you can see the whole city from all directions.

Even though it might not look like it. I was shaking in my boots when  took this pic. I have a serious fear of heights. T_T

This is my new favorite tea spot. Too bad they don’t have one where I live. T_T

Had to detox my body from eating out everyday with a Green Tea Ginger Twist. SOOOO GOOODDD!!! Highly recommend if you like ginger. I was actually at the grocery store the other day and found bottle teas from this cafe in the health drink section.

This was one of the must do on in my Chicago list. I had seen this place on the Food Channel and Travel Channel, so I HAD to come. I think I waited in line for about an hour in 100 degree weather till I was able to see the door. My will was waning once I hit the 30 min mark, but it’s sooo worth it…soooo worth it. ^_^

This is just their rare hot dog menu. They are most famous for this. But they do have a pretty mean Chicago dog if you don’t feel adventurous. Oh, FYI they only take cash. You have been warned. Lol.

These duck fat fries are heavenly horrible for my thighs. Lol. If you get a change to go on the days they serve duck fat fries, try them out!! ><

We finally ended out day with Thai food at the Silverspoon. It reminded me a little of home. Even though I’m not Thai. It was nice to have Asian food for a change. Silverspoon is an AMAMZING Thai place. Very affordable and very understated. Go if you have a chance. ><

Had to get Pad Thai.

I hope you guys have a great weekend. Enjoy the sun! ^_^

Ulta and Sephora Mini Haul

29 Jul

Good Day Meebsie’s

How has summer been treating you? Mine has been pretty amazing. I’m going to be going on a road trip to Seattle tomorrow and I can’t wait. Sorry, sucker for Grey’s¬†Anatomy. Lol. ^^ I just wanted to show you guys a few things I got from Ulta and Sephora when I was in Chicago. It was actually my first time going to an actual Ulta. I’ve seen their online website, but I never knew that they had an actual store! It was pretty exciting. >< I love Ulta because it has EVERYTHING!!! Even though I am a Sephora lover, they mostly have high end makeup there. I love how Ulta is the perfect blend of high end and drug store products. One stop makeup shop. Lol. ^^

I was¬†ECSTATIC¬†when I saw this section. We don’t have anyway to buy NYX back at home. I’ve always wanted to try out¬†their¬†products.

Love Smashbox!!!

I thought it was really neat how they organize their products by face, eyes, lip, etc.

They have a pretty big hair sections. Soooo many hair dryers. ^^

Had to get NYX products. HAD to get bling bling. Lol. ^_^ I’m a glitter addict.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about these brushes. I’ve been using a foundation brush for my liquid foundation, so I thought I would try out a stippling brush. Let me tell you something. I am in love with this brush. My foundation looks FLAWLESS. *O* GET A STIPPLING BRUSH. It’s a MUST HAVE!!!

I absolutely love this pink. Very simple, elegant, yet fun. ^^

Once again, my glitter addiction got the better of me. But this nail polish was so pretty I¬†couldn’t¬†resist. Actually, this glitter matches the China Glaze I got from Ulta. I might do a nail tutorial with them. ^_^

I’ve actually been using this primer for a long time now. I found out the other day that they are discontinuing it. =( I think they are using the same formula but in a new bottle? IDK. If you guys want to try it out, you should go to Sephora asap.

I thought this was really interesting. Since I only order online when I shop at Sephora I usually get prepackage samples. I was kind of shocked when the lady asked what sample I wanted. When I asked for Urban Decay Primer Potion, I thought she was going to give me a little pouch or something. But she just went over to the sample on display and squeezed a little into this pot. It’s actually kind of really cool. Plus I’m happy that I got to try out this primer. I’ve been using Two Faced Shadow Insurance Primer but now I think I might switch over to Urban Decay. Maybe I’ll do a primer comparison/review sometime.

That’s all for now. I will have another Chicago post soon. Yeah, I have a lot of Chicago memories. Lol. ^^

Chicago Trip Part 3 (Sightseeing and Eating ^_^)

26 Jul

Hello Meebsies,

I just finished making caramel apples and popcorn. ^^ Really random right? It’s actually the first time I’ve ever made caramel from scratch. I’m actually quite pleased. Now I just have to wait 30 mins for them to cool. It’s taking soooo long. T_T I’m soooo hungry!!! Lol.

Caramel Apple Forest. ^^

Now without further ado. Another Chicago post.

Went to the Hershey Store and when I saw this brownie in the window I had to have it. ^^ THIS IS THE BEST BROWNIE I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!! GET IT!!!! I COMMAND YOU TO!!!

The malls are¬†ridiculously huge. This is the¬†escalator¬†in one of the malls I went to. It’s HUGE but pretty. ^_^

It’s Lego Woody!!!

Went to a Disney Store. It was magical. Lol.

My favorite Disney movie evah is Finding Nemo. I LOVED DORY!!!

I highly¬†suggest¬†going on a boat tour. They offer a ton of different ones. The one I went on was during the evening and we even got a personal firework show. ^^ It’s a great way to see the city and learn a little about the sights.

Had to go to Lou Malnati’s when in Chicago.

Deep Dish Pizza is a must!

If anything, you HAVE to go to Portillos. My mouth is watering just looking at the picture. *drools* GET THE CHOCOLATE CAKE AND ITALIAN BEEF!!!! I went there twice in the two weeks. So good…so good…so good.

Chicago really is gorgeous.

I saw The Purple Pig featured in a few travel and food shows so I thought I would check them out.

The chicken kebabs are UNBELIEVABLE!!! *O*

Cheese and bubbly. ^^¬†Ironically¬†enough I didn’t have any pork while I was there. If you guys get a chance to go there tell me how it is. ^^

Believe it or not, I’ve never had pickled olives before.

Or fried olives.

Lemon Panna Cotta for dessert.

Random. I went to a hot sauce store and saw this. Winning. Lol.

Chicago Trip Part 2 (Navy Pier and China Town)

25 Jul

Hey Meebsie’s,

Time for another Chicago post. ^_^

I think that popcorn is a bigger thing on the east coast than the west coast. But hey, I’m not complaining. The Chicago mix from Garret’s was pretty yummy. ^_^

Went to Bubba Gump for dinner. Allusion to Forest Gump. ^^

Once we sat down at our table I noticed these signs. Our waitress explained to us that when you have the run forest run sign, this means that you don’t need any service. However, when you put up the stop forest stop, someone will stop and help you. I thought it was a pretty neat concept. ^^

Really yummy and neat drinks. ^^ The cups actually light up and you get to keep them. The left is a strawberry lemonade freeze. The right is a blue lemonade freeze.

I thought this drink was really unique. I actually didn’t get it, which is kind of why you are looking at a picture in a picture. I was actually really tempted to take a picture of a lady who did have the drink at the table right next to me. That’s how much I love you guys. Lol. ^_^ But since I was hungry and waited 45 mins to get a table, I decided getting kicked out wasn’t ideal. Sorry guys.

We got the¬†sampler and the seafood bucket. I’m going to be real with you guys. Bubba Gump is NOT the place to get seafood. Everything they have is¬†defiantly frozen. They don’t serve fresh seafood. I would know, I’ve been to¬†restaurants¬†where I choose what I want to eat from a tank and then it goes straight to the kitchen to my plate. The seafood here is pretty bad. The clams and mussels are extremely overcooked and rock/rubber like. If you are going to pay $70 for a bucket of seafood, I would expect something much better than this. The portions are also extremely small. I do not suggest getting seafood here. Sorry Bubba Gump. =/

Drove/crashed my first toy boat. Lol. ^^ Meebs is 3.

A must do when you go to Chicago. RIDE THE NAVY PIER FERRIS WHEEL!!!

My ride. Lol.

Chicago skyline from the Ferris Wheel. Gorgeous. *0*

Navy Pier on Fourth of July. It’s PACKED!!!

Navy Pier’s cooling center. Yeah, there is a cooling center.

I wore my dress from Forever 21. >< I’ve had a few people ask what I look like. Lol. This is who Meebs is. ^^

Of course I had to have Dim Sum in China Town.

Joy Yee is one of the first places to serve Bubble Tea in the US. Can you guess what type of  Bubble Tea I got? MANGO & PASSION FRUIT!!! Had to get mango of course. SOOO GOOD. WHOOT!!! ^O^

Really good Vietnamese sandwich.

Did some shopping. Isn’t he cute?

Aji Ichiban Candy. ^^

On my way back home I saw this¬†beautiful Bloomingdale’s.

My hotel, the¬†Millennium¬†Knickerbocker’s Lobby.
